My Young Ones has been created to provide information for parents, carers and organisations interested in using technology with children with special needs. My two young ones both have gross motor delays and my youngest has vision/hearing impairments. They have both used technology from an early age, in the form of switch adapted PCs to iPads, for fine motor skills, language and speech development. My youngest is really good on the iPad which amazes me considering his vision impairment.
On this website there is a section dedicated to iPad apps for children that I have used with my children, and a suggested list of iPad apps to help your child communicate and develop. This will be updated as we discover new apps.
There is also information about making a switch adapted mouse for computers which is quite easy if you are handy with a soldering iron. There are a few links to software to get you started using your switch adapted mouse too.
Some toys can also be easily adapted to work with switches.
If you don’t want to make your own switch adapted mice or toys I am willing to adapt them for you, or supply new toys pre-adapted. I keep all my prices reasonable, so parents, carers & organisations that supports children with special needs can buy these items without a major dent in their hip pocket.
There is also an amazing amount of information out there to assist parents and children with disabilities, and there will be a section dedicated to passing on the information that I have found over the years.
In the future I will be learning how to make iPad apps so that I can create some basic iPad apps for my son, and other children with special needs.
If there is any information that you would like to see on this site, suggest iPad apps or ask for some assistance please do not hesitate to get in touch with me via the contact page. If you have apps or products you would like reviewed, please email me.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my site.
